About this opportunity

Makerere University, through its Biomedical Engineering Unit in the Department of Physiology, in partnership with Case Western Reserve University (USA), is inviting applications for a fully supported Master's Scholarship in Biomedical Engineering. The scholarship is funded through the U.S. NIH Fogarty International Center and aims to build Uganda's capacity in biomedical engineering, medical technology innovation, and health research by supporting outstanding Master's students in engineering and related health disciplines. Successful applicants will receive tuition support, a monthly stipend, and research funding for up to one academic year. The programme focuses on developing innovative technologies to address major health challenges such as cardiovascular diseases, blood disorders, and chronic movement disorders.

Who is eligible?

Applicants must: Hold a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a health-related discipline from a recognized university. Be enrolled in or eligible for an MSc programme in one of the eligible fields at Makerere University. Demonstrate a strong interest in biomedical engineering, medical devices, and technology innovation. Have a research idea focusing on: Cardiovascular diseases; Blood disorders; or Chronic movement disorders. Demonstrate good academic performance during the first year of their Master's programme. Be willing to attend an oral interview if shortlisted.
